- Let It Snow Let It Snow: Walking in a Winter Wonderland
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (THN News) - "Sleigh bells ringing are you listening? In the lane snow is glistening. A beautiful sight, we're happy tonight; Walking in a winter wonderland." - Winter Wonderland Song. And a wonderland Hattiesburg is today. Snow covered the Hub City today and yes it was beautiful. Let's take a look at some historic pictures around the city, from universities & famous homes to playgrounds and Seymour. All pictures photographed by Dee Moye. As the snow flew in, so did The University of Southern Mississippi's Golden Eagle Mascot Seymour. As with most birds, Seymour didn't hesitate to eat seed, this seed however is no doubt bigger and made of snow. To continue to tour the beautiful wonderland we pause and take a look at the historic Rock stadium on the campus of the University of Southern Miss as the entire Carlise-Faulker Field is completely covered in snow. Mississippi Power is no power to nature's beauty. Mississippi Power Hattiesburg Service Center in Hattiesburg, Mississippi off HWY 42 Bypass is covered in snow. Mississippi Department of Transportation in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on HWY 49 represents the glory of both the nation, state, and nature as the national and state flags fly half mass with a beautiful array of snow covering its premises. The Chain Mansion, home to Hattiesburg's former Mayor and Founder of Chain Electric, Bobby Chain, home is beautifully covered in snow. The Chain Mansion is one of the biggest and most historic homes in Hattiesburg. The Mayor's Mansion on Main Street in Downtown Hattiesburg, home of Hattiesburg's longest serving mayor and first African American Mayor, Dr. Johnny DuPree, is gracefully covered in snow. The historic Tally House located of Dabbs Street in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, built in 1907 for Judge J. R. Tally is a whopping 13,000 square feet and has eleven fireplaces. It is now home to Hattiesburg's City Councilman Dave Ware. In all of it's glory, even the fountain freezes in history as the snow takes center stage. Let it snow! Let it snow! Nothing says snow like kids having fun at a local park playing in the snow. A very rare moment, snow covered the historic Vernon Dahmer Park in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and the kids are not taking this moment for granted. A United State Postal Service Worker continues to deliver mail to residents in Hattiesburg even as the snow continues to fall highlighting true dedication and a little mailman fun. This historic photo of Highland Cemetery as the many of the city's loved ones lay at rest but this day covered in the glory of God's beautiful snow along with His gentle peace. The entrance to Chain Park at Twin Forks in Hattiesburg doesn't look like this park is even in Hattiesburg let alone Mississippi. The snow highlights just how beautiful both the park and nature can be. Perhaps the oldest road in Hattiesburg, most commonly known as the brick road, is home to many prestigious citizens and history. Nature's snow has a way of setting this iconic picture in it's proper place as one of the most beautiful pictures of this historic street.

- Pharrell Williams is named a UNESCO goodwill ambassador
PARIS (AP) — Pop star and fashion designer Pharrell Williams was named UNESCO’s goodwill ambassador for artistic education and entrepreneurship on Tuesday in Paris, continuing his cultural dominance of the French capital as Louis Vuitton menswear artistic director and performer at Notre Dame Cathedral’s reopening earlier this month. Williams said he hoped to “deepen that sense of unity and togetherness” in work that “evens the odds for marginalized communities.” He also spoke about his impoverished youth, adding: “Growing up in Virginia, never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be given an opportunity like this one.” The role of goodwill ambassador for the Paris-based U.N. cultural agency involves promoting its initiatives that include protecting Indigenous cultures, advancing education and health care for women, raising awareness about genocide prevention and safeguarding cultural heritage. The U.N. agency said Williams will be “a mentor and role model for young creators, particularly in Africa, where UNESCO supports the development of cultural industries.” Williams joins a list of goodwill ambassadors that includes U.S. jazz musician Herbie Hancock, Brazilian artist Vik Muniz and Japanese filmmaker Naomi Kawase. Williams has been particularly visible in Paris this year. Shortly before the Paris Olympics, his role as Louis Vuitton menswear designer took center stage during a star-studded event at UNESCO’s headquarters. The show, celebrating the beauty of human skin, featured models wearing garments in shades representing the diverse hues of humanity. UNESCO leaders hope that Williams’ global influence and deep connections to fashion and music will draw fresh attention to the agency’s work. Williams is American, and his selection as goodwill ambassador also may be highlighting the readmission of the United States to UNESCO last year. The U.S. exit under President Donald Trump cited alleged anti-Israel bias within the agency. The decision followed a 2011 decision by UNESCO to include Palestine as a member state, which led the U.S. and Israel to cease financing for the agency. The U.S. return under President Joe Biden was marked by a flag-raising ceremony attended by U.S. First Lady Jill Biden .

- Crusaders Come Up Short Against Dalton State
HATTIESBURG, Miss . – The William Carey Men's Basketball Team came up short, as they fell to Dalton State 76-74 in SSAC action Tuesday evening at Clinton Gym. "A really frustrating game for us today," said Head Coach Steve Knight . "We were very lethargic the first half and allowed them to dictate the pace on both ends of the floor. We showed a lot of grit to fight back and give ourselves a chance to win in the second half, but they made the final play." Despite being outshot 50% to 34% the Crusaders found themselves down by only nine points at the break in large part to winning the rebound battle 25-17. After missing their first two shot attempts, Cam Brown scored five straight points to put Carey on the board and give them a 5-4 lead after three minutes of play. That would be the last time WCU led in the first half though. Over the next two minutes, Matt Compas followed with a layup to put Dalton back in front with the Roadrunners scoring six more points to pull away to a 12-5 advantage. The Crusaders halted the run and answered with a 7-2 run of their own to get back within two points. However, Carey could get no closer, as DSC answered each time eventually pulling away to a 31-22 lead with under five to play. Over the final five minutes of the half, the Crusaders managed to get within five at 36-31 on a Randarius Hughes jumper with less than two minutes remaining. Just like before though the Roadrunners answered closing the half on a 4-0 run. Coming out of the break, both teams went back and forth until the Crusaders went on an 11-0 run to retake the lead. With Dalton leading 48-40, Hughes got things going for Carey, scoring four straight points with Ashton Campbell following with three straight. Zandon Haralson continued the run for WCU with a layup with Dylan Brumfield making the layup that put Carey in front 51-48 with under fifteen minutes remaining. Things went back forth for the next several minutes but over a four-minute span, Dalton again pulled away behind a 17-4 run to take a ten-point lead with eight minutes to play. The Crusaders would not go quietly, slowly chipping away at the DSC lead and with less than a minute remaining, Brown drained a three pointer from the near corner to tie the game at 74. With the game tied, time winding down, and the Roadrunners having the ball, Antonio Lewis drove the lane making what would be the game winning layup to seal the victory. Dylan Brumfield led the offense with 21 points. Randarius Hughes finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Cam Brown had 15 points. Carey is back in action Thursday, December 19, as they take on Blue Mountain Christian in conference action. Play is set to begin at 7:30 pm at Clinton Gym.
- Strong Defense Propels Crusaders Over Truett McConnell
HATTIESBURG, Miss . – The William Carey Men's Basketball Team used a strong defensive performance to defeat Truett McConnell University 100-71 Friday night at Clinton Gym. "I thought we played a complete game, both offensively and defensively," said Head Coach Steve Knight . "Shot it extremely well, that always helps, but we had 13 steals, 18 assists and only 6 turnovers. Our defense was very active and caused them some problems." After a dunk by Ankerion Gross to open the game, the Carey defense forced three turnovers but could only manage two points off them. The Bears settled in on offense, going on a 6-0 run to take the lead with sixteen minutes left. After trading shots, four different Crusaders combined for ten straight points to make it 21-10 Carey. TMU managed to cut the deficit to four behind a 7-0 run, but WCU responded with a 12-2 run with a jumper by Makeem Roberts pushing the Crusader lead to fourteen with seven minutes left in the half. Over the final minutes of the half the WCU offense continued their hot shooting, stretching their lead to as many as twenty-two points on their way to a 50-30 lead at the break. Despite being out rebounded 21-9, the Crusaders won the turnover battle 10-2 and outshot the Bears 59% to 35%. WCU picked up where they left off in the first half, opening the second half on a 12-4 run to push their lead to twenty-six four minutes in. From there it was all Carey, as they led by as many as twenty-nine points on their way to victory. For the second half, Carey again was out rebounded but only by one and again won the turnover battle 10-4 and with the ten turnovers in the first half, led to a total of twenty-five points for the game. Four different Crusaders finished in double figures with Cam Brown leading the way with twenty-four points. Ankerion Gross and Jamar Jenkins each finished with sixteen points with Dylan Brumfield adding fourteen points.
