Warren Central ends 30 year drought, Tupelo steals a road win and a peak at the 5A & 6A Semifinals

This Friday night concluded the Mississippi High School Football 5A and 6A quarterfinals playoff round. Along with 4 teams reaching one step closer to the opportunity in playing for a state championship, one program broke a 30-year-old losing drought.


Warren Central broke the history books by advancing to the semifinals for the first time since 1994. Before this monumental win, they had lost 11 straight quarterfinal games. The Vikings defense was able to force three turnovers over South Panola in a 21-3 victory.



To highlight just a few more; Tupelo steals a road win over Starkville in a nail-biting 35-34 finish. Then Picayune stakes eight into it’s win column by beating George County, 56-28.


Semifinals for the 5A and 6A playoffs will be on November 29. See full game scores below.


5A - Quarterfinals

Picayune vs George County, 56-28

Hattiesburg vs Pascagoula 33-17

Grenada vs Nashoba Central, 31-7

Warren Central vs South Panola, 21-3


Semifinals Matchup - Nov. 29

The Hattiesburg Tigers will host The Picayune Maroon Tide. The Grenada Chargers will be home against the Warren Central Vikings. Both games tip off at 7 p.m.


6A - Quarterfinals

Madison Central vs Germantown, 52-14

Tupelo for Starkville, 35-34

Brandon vs Petal, 45-10

Ocean Springs vs Oak Grove, 27-14


Semifinals Matchup - Nov. 29

The Toledo Golden waves will host The Madison Central Cougars for the send time this season, and the Brandon Bulldogs will be home against the Ocean Spring Greyhounds. Both games tip off at 7 p.m.
