NASHVILLE, Tenn. (THN News) - Tennessee pauses executions after failed lethal injection. Bill Lee has halted Tennessee's remaining scheduled 2026 executions and ordered an independent review after death-row prisoner Christa Gail Pike survived Wednesday's lethal-injection attempt at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville.
Pike's attorneys said Thursday that she remained critically ill and was receiving life-saving treatment. The situation remains developing.
POLITICS & GOVERNMENT — November election approaching. Tennessee's statewide general election is November 3, with contests for governor, Congress and other offices. Hattiesburg News will treat candidate statements as attributed campaign claims rather than established facts.

MEMPHIS: Memphis police recently announced an arrest in an attempted second-degree murder investigation stemming from a Sept. 26 shooting on Eastline Drive.
