Tennessee Governor’s Race Enters Final Stretch — Tennessee’s general election is now just weeks away, with Republican nominee Marsha Blackburn, Democratic nominee Jerri Green and multiple independent candidates campaigning across the state. Political advertising and outside spending are becoming increasingly visible as Election Day approaches.

Federal Judge Allows THP-Immigration Enforcement Partnership to Continue — A federal judge has denied a request for a preliminary injunction that sought to stop the Tennessee Highway Patrol from conducting certain traffic stops alongside federal immigration agents.

Tennessee Execution Draws Demonstrations — Demonstrators are rallying ahead of the scheduled September 30 execution of death-row inmate Christa Gail Pike. The Tennessee Supreme Court has denied a request to halt the execution.

Employment: State officials report that 89 of Tennessee’s 95 counties had unemployment rates below 5% in August. Tennessee also announced that the 2027–28 FAFSA application is open and that the state received more than $7.9 million through a federal teacher and school-leader incentive program.

Deadly I-65 Crash Under Investigation — Metro Nashville Police say an argument inside a vehicle preceded a deadly crash early Sunday. Police said passenger Austin Franklin grabbed the steering wheel during the argument before the vehicle left the roadway, crossed I-65 North and struck a concrete median. Franklin died at the scene; the driver was hospitalized in stable condition.

Gallatin Pike Safety Improvements Begin — Nashville transportation officials are beginning work on a Gallatin Pike safety project, while Nashville International Airport is preparing another traffic-pattern change around its rental-car and valet operations beginning September 30.

MEMPHIS / WEST TENNESSEE

Deadly North Memphis Shooting — Memphis Police are investigating a Sunday afternoon shooting that left a man dead following what police described as an altercation between roommates.

Shelby County Commission Begins New Chapter — A newly seated Shelby County Commission has a relatively short Monday agenda, including votes on committee leadership.

Data Centers Remain a Major Memphis Issue — Memphis City Councilman JB Smiley Jr. has introduced an amended proposal for a temporary data-center moratorium, with a final reading scheduled for October 6.

KNOXVILLE / EAST TENNESSEE

Fatal Hamilton County Crash — Authorities say a driver died after a truck crashed into a pond on Birchwood Pike. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.

TVA Sets September Power-Demand Record — TVA says electricity demand exceeded 30,000 megawatts on 17 days this September, amid unusually hot conditions and growing demand. TVA says billions of dollars in generation and grid investment are underway.

CLARKSVILLE

Water Outage & Road Closure Today — Clarksville Gas & Water has scheduled a water outage and Dalewood Drive closure beginning at 8 a.m. today for valve replacement. Officials expect service and the roadway to be restored by approximately 4 p.m.

School Bus Crash Case: A grand jury has returned traffic-charge indictments against the driver involved in the fatal Kenwood Middle School bus crash; an earlier vehicular-homicide charge was not among the indictments returned by the grand jury.

MURFREESBORO / RUTHERFORD COUNTY

Historic Fosterville Store Destroyed — A Friday fire destroyed the historic Fosterville store, reducing the longtime community structure to charred remains.

Blood Donations Needed — The American Red Cross is urging Middle Tennessee residents to donate blood amid a shortage that local reporting says has affected elective procedures at some hospitals.

University of Tennessee: No. 14 Tennessee fell 20–17 to No. 1 Texas in Knoxville in its SEC opener.

Middle Tennessee State: MTSU women’s tennis completed the Belmont/Lipscomb Hidden Duals in Nashville with five victories on the final day.

University of Memphis: Memphis women’s soccer scored a season-high five goals in a shutout of Florida Atlantic Sunday. Memphis football also announced completion of its 2027 nonconference schedule, including a home-and-home agreement with Toledo.

CULTURE & COMMUNITY

Black Education History Exhibition Coming to Tennessee — A traveling exhibition titled “Building a Bright Future: Black Communities and Rosenwald Schools in Tennessee” opens October 2 in Charlotte, Tennessee. The exhibition explores the history and legacy of Rosenwald schools and Black education across the state.

A warm and mostly dry Monday is expected across Tennessee.

Nashville: Partly sunny with temperatures reaching the mid-80s. Memphis: Warm and dry with highs in the mid-80s; elevated fire danger remains a concern because of dry conditions. Knoxville: Sunny and dry with highs in the upper 70s. Chattanooga: Partly sunny with highs in the lower 80s. Clarksville: Sunny with a high near 79.

Temperatures are expected to climb during the middle of the week, with 90s possible in portions of Middle and West Tennessee before rain chances increase later in the week.
