LAUREL, Miss. (THN News) - The second candidate to announce their run to replace retired Senator Juan Barnett since the governor called for a special election is 67 year old Ken Keyes of Laurel, MS.

In his first news interview, Hattiesburg News spoke exclusively with the candidate about who he is, why he's running, and why voters should vote for him.

Hattiesburg News has decided to release the entirety of the interview, without editing the recording.

Ken, a retired fire fighter and Pine Belt Businessman, talked in depth about his background, community work, his platform on running, and why he believes voters should vote for him.

He says his message to voters is simple: "Make The Pine Belt A Lot Better Place to Live!"

During the interview, Ken talked about continuing to build on the accomplishments Senator Juan Barnett has achieved while also leaving his mark on his community in his own way.

He also talked about the disappointment of using the old maps calling it "confusing" for voters. It's worth mentioning, Ken also stated he will seek to run for the full senate term next year.
