Paint The City Purple: What You Need To Know About Saturday's Game + How You Can Show Your Support

Updated: Dec 18, 2024

Tune in Saturday to watch our exclusive live special coverage of Saturday's historic 6a Football State Championship Game starting at 4pm with our award winning special coverage team, Miranda Beard, Russ Robinson, BoPete Keyes, Rion Young & more.

Here's everything you need to know about this historic state championship on Saturday. Hattiesburg News sat down for an exclusive one on one interview with Adam Johnson, General Manager of the Mississippi High School Activities Association to answer the tons of emails we've gotten in recent days.

Will The Weather Let Me Pop Out?

First off let's look at the weather for Saturday. Yes, you can come out and help paint the city purple for this historic game. It will be cold but there will be NO rain on Saturday. As you heard Adam say, umbrellas are still welcomed. There will be widespread frost before 7am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 58. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph. Then, Saturday Night, mostly cloudy, with a low around 41. Calm wind. For more about the weather click here.

Show Your Support

Do your part and help paint the city purple! Every business, church, parent, family member, and friend can show their love to their favorite player or entire team with a Tiger Ad.

Ads start at $100 and will be shown multiple times throughout the special live coverage including during the Pre-game and Halftime shows.

As tens of thousands of fans, alumni, and supporters will be watching the official live coverage leading up to kickoff, take a part of history with you as these special ads will be shown for years to come. To signup for your special ad click here. The deadline is Friday at 6pm.

Is Hattiesburg the Home Team?

NO! Hattiesburg Tigers are playing here in their hometown of Hattiesburg, MS at the University of Southern Mississippi but Hattiesburg will NOT be the home team. Grenada High School Chargers are the home team and Hattiesburg is the visiting team. This means, as Adam pointed out in the exclusive interview, Hattiesburg will need to paint the rock purple by packing out the visitors section by the tens of thousands.

Can We Tailgate?

Yes, you can Bar-B-Que! Paint the city purple by tailgating. As Adam explains in the interview, tailgating is allowed. Yes, you can bar-b-que but you can't bring big trailer grills.

Everyone is recommended to tailgate at Spirit Park. You can tailgate anywhere on campus especially around the stadium as long as you don't block traffic. There are no reservations. Spaces are on a first come first serve basis. You can bring your tents but you can't put stakes in the ground.

What Does It Cost To Be A Vendor?

You cannot sell food. This year's football state championship does not allow vendors. Other MHSAA state championship games do allow vendors. This is not one of those games. Although you can tailgate, you can NOT sell food or any items.

What About Day Activities?

No better way to paint the city purple than by having a good time at one of the city's exciting parties. Nobody parties like Hattiesburg and if you're not tailgating on campus then you can stop by and see a party like no other as two of Hattiesburg favorites, Myron Lott and Dj Brandon Keys, team up for the official Game Day Block Party at The Mint Julep located at 6204 Hwy 49.

Looking for a place to get free drinks before the game, then stop by the official HHS Championship Pregame Party at Destin Holliman's new lounge, Hunnies Brunch Bar, located at 827 Hardy Street, that will include food, hookahs, and yes you guessed it free drinks for everybody paid for by former Hattiesburg High Star Athlete Orrion Bailey.

Where to Buy Tickets?

Yes tickets are still available but hurry before they are sold out. Paint the city purple by buying your ticket to this once in a lifetime event. As Adam said in the interview, tickets are only $15. Tickets are the same price whether online or in person. You can skip the long lines and buy your game day tickets by clicking here. There are no VIP Tickets or suites available for this game.
