Lady Crusaders Compete at NAIA XC Championship

COLUMBIA, Mo. – In a field of 326 runners and 36 teams, the William Carey Women's Cross-Country team compiled 864 points to finish in 32nd place with a time of 2:01:30 at the 2024 NAIA Women's Cross Country National Championship.


"Proud of our group today," said Cooper Herrington. "Felt like we brought good effort and execution on our race and competed against some really great teams at Nationals. From here we transition to track and look forward to another great season."


Blanca Conesa paced the Lady Crusaders with a time of 23:05 to finish the 5K race in 136th place. "Very happy to be able to say that I have run one more year at the NAIA National Cross Country Championship and add great moments with my team of girls," said Conesa. "I am proud of all of them because despite the cold we went out to fight. Personally, I didn't have my best race but I took from this championship a learning "value each result, with time you will see it with better eyes"


Virginia Tirado was next to cross the finish line in a time of 23:21 to place 167th with Isabelle Wheeler posting a time of 24:01. Hannah Mitchell followed with a time of 24:52 with Maria Simancas and Aurora Latimer rounding out the squad with times of 26:09 and 27:36 respectively.


"Not what we wanted," said Ryan McKenzie. "We expected to be around 25-28. They did their best with the conditions. We are proud of them and their season."


Running as an individual in the NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championship that featured 326 runners was Nathan who finished in 163rd place with a time of 25:33 in the 8K event.
